Northwest Youth Corps

Northwest Youth Corps (NYC) has an annual budget of $3.5 million, employs an 25 full-time staff, and operates four different programs:

·         YouthWorks combines learning and outdoor fun with challenging team-building activities. YouthWorks serves 200 youth aged 12-13 and 14-15 each summer.

·         Outdoor School is an alternative high school that combines classroom education with field studies and outdoor work experience.  The program enrolls 60 students.

·         YouthCorps operates six leadership and youth development programs.  All programs offer youth a team based first work experience in a challenging outdoor format stressing education and personal growth.  YouthCorps programs serve 800 youth annually.

·         AmeriCorps awards from the Oregon Commission on Community Service support 12 full-time AmeriCorps members who work in a number of community and NYC program areas.

 

Job Description

The Administrative Director (AD) is a key member of the NYC management team and works closely with the Executive Director (ED) to develop new programs and implement new initiatives.  The AD is head of NYC’s Administrative Department which provides the operational support required for all other NYC programs consistently deliver high quality programs to youth.  The AD supervises staff responsible for AmeriCorps program management, fleet management, building maintenance, information technology, participant recruitment, and logistical support for all NYC field operations.   

 

The AD is the organization’s Safety Officer and develops, supervises, coordinates, and supports all safety programs, emergency responses and accident investigations.  The AD manages the organization’s worker’s compensation and employment insurance programs and supports staff in the recruitment, hiring, and training of new employees.  

 

The AD prepares and manages budgets, prepares operational reports, documents operational procedures, coordinates meetings and conducts performance reviews.  The AD may also work with marketing and development staff to create and implement fundraising and public relations strategies. 

 

Qualifications

·         Administrative and managerial experience in positions of increasing responsibility.

·         Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated, independent worker.

·         Four year degree; Public Relations, Marketing, or Business Administration preferred. 

·         Excellent writing skills, proven ability to communicate well with people.

·         Budgetary and financial management experience with an organization of similar size.

·         Experience in fundraising, grant writing and program development.

·         Solid IBM computer skills; Windows NT and Windows 2003 experience desirable.

·         History in youth development and experience working with young people.

·         Proven success in creating collaborative relationships or coalitions.

·         History of effectiveness working with community organizations and/or public agencies. 

·         Experience in public relations and marketing.

·         Background in education, public policy and/or resource management desirable.  

·         Outdoor recreation, education, or work experience a plus.

 

Term of Employment

Full-time.  Workloads may require long days and/or evening or weekend responsibilities.

 

Compensation

35/50K DOE.  Benefits: health/dental insurance with co-pay, short/long-term disability, life insurance, retirement plan funded by employer contributions and 403-b option funded by employee contributions.
