"[Today] we learned about ecosystems. Since we are eradicating a noxious weed, we learned why and how plants can take over an area. 'Mumbles' also taught a great SEED [lesson]. It showed us how to use a map and compass. [Our crewleader] helped us manage our time better, which was a lesson we all needed."

Make a teen's day! Anyone can be a "fairy god-parent" by sending a special package to a teen in the field. Although most teens do receive packages from home, some teens don't because of life situations. You can help make a deserving teen's day with a special surprise. Visit our Parent Page for instructions and package content suggestions. Thanks to alumni parent Anna Stone for recently contributing packages.
Summertime and the giving is easy! For just pennies a day, you can introduce a young person to NYC's blend of teamwork, challenge, and outdoor service, though these NYC initiatives:
- Tools for Teens doubles the number of crews who can benefit from NYC's Backcountry Leadership Program.
- NYC Endowment-funded scholarships increase program access for in-need youth.
- YouthGrow promotes youth development through a productive and sustainable educational farm.
- TravelSafe replaces NYC's fleet of vans with specially designed buses.
- Sponsor-A-Crew keeps crews in the field, improves our field education curricula, creates new programs, and maintains our commitment to excellence.
Visit our Needs & Initiatives page for more info.
