The BLP 4 crew has started their fantastic five week journey with a trip to the ZigZag Ranger District on the Mt. Hood National Forest. The crew shouldered their backpacks and headed for a trail maintenance and reconstruction project. This experienced and eager group should have a great time enjoying daily views of snowcapped Mt. Hood.
This Weekend:(8/13) IS a Parent’s Weekend Site.
The crews that WILL be there are: Yellow, Orange, Red and the BLP4.
Location: Old Black Pine Campground, in SISTERS. (Directions below!)
Parent Weekend Site Times: Visitors to the NYC camp should arrive at 4:00 PM or later as the crews are on their weekend recreation trips until 4:00. Dinner is usually around 5:30 PM and the evening concludes around 8:00 PM.
What to Do: Parents’ visits are an excellent opportunity for parents to get to know their son’s or daughter’s crew and the leadership team. Please take some time to visit with the participants, but refrain from removing your son or daughter from the weekend site location.
What to Bring: In anticipation of visiting parents we send out extra food for our Saturday dinner, however, if you would like to bring a dish to pass, please bring items that provide the nourishment that the corpsmembers need to work hard and stay healthy while out in the woods. Fresh vegetables and fruits are always welcome. Lastly, please bring your own plate and silverware.
Guidelines: During parents’ visits we ask that parents adhere to the NYC guidelines for creating a community that is safe, peaceful, law abiding and consistent with our efforts to provide a meaningful outdoor experience. Please help us by not smoking, cursing, camping illegally on-site, playing music from your car stereo or lending cell phones to the corps members. Instead spend your time talking, playing and laughing as we do during our 6 week wilderness experience.
Directions to the weekend site!!!
DIRECTIONS:
¨Take 126 and/or 20 to Sisters
¨Take Elm Street (FS 16) South. There are signs For Three Creeks Snow Park.
¨ Just after mile post 8, there is a unmarked dirt road on the LEFT. Take it.
¨Follow the NYC signs with arrows about a mile until you get to the NYC camp. There are many dispersal sites here; we will be camped in an obvious area.
Please note that this is a relatively dry area but that weather can be unpredictable. Bring a number of layers so that if it gets chilly you will still be comfortable.
