Parents, Thank you for coming to this page to check up on what your young-adults have been up to and will be doing for their next projects. The reason that we have this update is because we feel that it is important to keep you informed and keep a good communication relay with you. But we need your help to maintain a tradition we have here at NYC. This is privileged information – in other words – YOU find out where they are going a couple days before they find out where they are going. We have a fun tradition here in which we introduce the projects to the Corps Members on Sunday morning in a fun-filled, excitement-inducing ceremony that the Staff here all enjoy. When the youth already know where they are going, that takes the steam out of this particular event. This is where you come in – when your youth calls you to say hi on Friday of Saturdays, I need you to NOT tell them where they will be going. This helps us maintain the surprise for them. Thank you for all your support and understanding!

Red CrewThis Past Week (8/21/2011): Red crew is heading into the Umpqua National Forest to work on the epic Cow Creek Trail, and the Devil’s Flat Trail. These trails are in some dire need of maintenance. The project will include some creek crossing restoration, as well as some drainage structures that will have to be installed. They just rocked out their last project of building some brand new tread, and will no doubt rock this one as well.

This Upcoming Week (8/28/2011): Red crew will be ending their 5 week journey on an epic project. They will be constructing a massive 30’ bridge over Eagle Creek, at the confluence of the North Umpqua River. This will challenge their technical abilities, and show them that over the past 5 weeks, they have grown stronger, and are determined individuals who can accomplish anything when they work as a crew.

Orange CrewThis Past Week (8/21/2011): Orange crew is heading a little closer to home. They will be taking part in a huge restoration effort within the West Eugene Wetlands. This is a crucial location within the natural environment for the population of Eugene. This is a place where the public can go learn and appreciate the important wetland ecosystem within their own backyard. We are very proud to be sending a crew over there to help out in such a great cause.

This Upcoming Week (8/28/2011): Orange crew is heading back to Crater Lake, this time for a more challenging backcountry stint than what they had last week. After working with Orange this week, they asked me if they could have something that would really challenge them for their last week. They were craving a difficult project that would push their limits and help them see what they are actually capable of. This is definitely the project for them.

Yellow CrewThis Past Week (8/21/2011): Yellow is about to embark on a magical journey into the epic wilderness that is the Marble Mountains. That’s right, Gold crew will be venturing south into the land of alpine lakes, granite peaks, and endless waves of mountains. They will pick up where Blue crew left off, and will be logging out, and clearing the corridor for a major trail system in the Klamath National Forest.

This Upcoming Week (8/28/2011):Gold crew is still rocking it out in Norcal, and are loving life in the gorgeous Marble Mountain Wilderness!

Blue CrewThis Past Week (8/21/2011): Blue crew, coming off of their 2 week stint in the backcountry, will put all of the skills they learned into a very labor intensive project. They will be picking up where Red crew left off the previous week, continuing to construct the new trail over near the Susan Creek Day Use Area right on the gorgeous North Umpqua River. They will be crowning the trail with tons and tons of gravel. Trade in the bear hangs for some shovels, and wheel barrows, and away we go!

This Upcoming Week (8/28/2011): Blue is taking it back to where it all started. They are going to be working with, and camping at the same place they did the first week of the session. This will help provide a great experience of reflection, and getting to see how far they have come over the last month and a half. They will be working on OHV trails outside of the town of Prosepct with one of our all time
