 YouthWorks 2008

“Thank you so much for all of the care and playfulness that you put into making YouthWorks so much fun for our kids.”  From a YouthWorks parent.

NYC programs are developed from our many years of working outdoors with youth. Our YouthWorks program utilizes 2 adult crew leaders for each crew of 11 youth to ensure the safest, most engaging experience possible. NYC charges a modest tuition to help offset our program expenses including liability insurance, and the salaries of our crew leaders. We provide the necessary vehicles and fuel, any tools needed, daily snacks, and specialized equipment such as rafts and personal flotation devices. During the overnight camping trip, tents and other essential gear will be provided by NYC.

Ages 11-13 "The Explorers"

$395 for Session 1 & 2 Each session lasts 3 weeks
$265 for Session 3, which lasts 2 weeks due to the 4J/Springfield School start date

Experience the outdoors, enjoy every minute of every day, and learn about the importance of community service through special volunteer projects for non-profit organizations and public spaces. Throughout each session youth will explore many things and oh the places they'll go. The Explorers will learn the importance of making friends, discovering the world around them, teamwork, and leadership.

There will be various exciting field trips including whitewater rafting, a trip to the Pacific Ocean, adventurous hikes, an overnight camping trip and days spent in NYC's, Laurel Hill Organic Farm learning about seeds and weeds, roots and shoots, tubers and tomatoes, compost and why we love ladybugs!

Life lessons, community service, and adventurous outings all add to the quality and uniqueness of The Explorers program and to top it all off for each 3 week session fully completed by a Corpsmember, they will earn a stipend of $50.

In session 3, the work schedule is decreased. This sampler program is a very good way to have an NYC experience. While there will not be an overnight session, rafting, hiking and all the other fun will make for an amazing session. Life lessons, community service, and adventurous outings will all add to the quality and uniqueness of The Explorers program and to top it all off for full completion of the 2 week by a Corpsmember, they will earn a stipend of $25.

Ages 14-15 "The Ventures"

$395 for each session
$265 for Session 3, which lasts 2 weeks due to the 4J/Springfield School start date

Ventures will experience a program designed specifically for their interests and age. Youth will work on high priority trail and conservation projects directed toward community contribution with a service learning component. Service learning in the YouthWorks program focuses on purposeful learning through experiential education with efforts to improve and assist the local community through service and partnerships with agencies such as the Army Corps of Engineers, BLM, USFS, and local watershed councils.

It's not all work and no play! There is the forest, the coast, whitewater rafting, camping and farming. All activities are designed to create self-confident young leaders with new friends and big adventures.

For each 3 week session fully completed, the Venture Corpsmembers will earn a $75 Stipend. Session 3 is two weeks in length, and will not include an overnight trip. However, there will be the forest, the coast, whitewater rafting, and farming. All activities are designed to create self-confident young leaders with new friends and big adventures. Session 3 participants will also earn a stipend of $38.

Because YouthWorks is a day program, youth need to live in the Eugene/Springfield area to participate.
